PPL was a Diamond Sponsor at the 2020 HCBS Virtual Conference

Thank you for joining Public Partnerships | PPL at the virtual HCBS (Home & Community-Based Services) Conference spaced over two weeks on December 2 & 3, and 8-10, 2020.

The 2020 Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) Conference from ADvancing States’ is a recurring national conference that annually brings together state, federal, and local policymakers as well as leaders who administer, manage, and deliver Medicaid waiver and other HCBS long-term care programs.

PPL was a proud Diamond Sponsor at the impressively planned 2020 virtual event, designed to share practices and policies that improve state systems of delivering long-term services and supports (LTSS) for all ages and abilities. As the nation’s #1 choice Financial Management Service (FMS) provider, PPL supports “self-directing” individuals in their role as an employer, to hire and pay for their chosen care/support workers and services within their approved, personalized plan and budget.

PPL continually supports our State and MCO partners, learn more!

During these uncertain times, and as more people are looking to assess their care/support choices for loved ones and family members, it is critical for states and managed care organizations to work with agile partners who can quickly mobilize to educate and offer options and ensure the continuity of care and supports. PPL’s very own David Horvath, Senior Consultant, (pictured) co-hosted a panel session on ‘Flexibility in Financial Management Services (FMS) for Self-Direction in Times of Emergency and Beyond’. The panel experts for this session included:

  • Michael Hale, Bureau Director of Pennsylvania Department of Human Service, Office of Long-Term Living
  • Melissa Keller, Senior Account Director, PPL
  • Glenn Schroder, Director of Software Engineering Services, PPL
  • Emery Boehm, Director of Enrollment, PPL

Panelists presented state responses to the COVID-19 pandemic taking advantage of CMS flexibility and how states worked with PPL to reconfigure systems and processes to better serve individuals in home and community settings.

HCBS Conference Attendees: PPL White Paper Available Now!

"Appendix K Analysis"

Co-authored by Suzanne Crisp and David Horvath

Self-direction is a proven approach to reducing program participants’ and their families' anxiety to secure safe in-home care from someone they know and trust. This paper examines self-direction and its impact on reducing the threat of the COVID-19 Pandemic.

It focuses on state Appendix K submissions to the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) to ensure continuity of services by requesting immediate temporary changes to §1915(c) waivers. States asked for modifications to add, expand, suspend, delay, or relax specific program policies to ensure services are accessible and that adequate staffing is available.
